St. Louis Christian College was granted accreditation status with ABHE in 1977. The COA of the Association for Biblical Higher Education is an institutional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) as a institutional “gatekeeper” accrediting agency. ABHE is also recognized as a national, faith-based accrediting agency by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
On November 1, 2019, the Department of Education made the following statement that went into effect July 1, 2020: “the Department will no longer categorize agencies as regional or national; we will instead include them under a combined umbrella identified as ‘institutional’ or ‘nationally recognized.’ The terms ‘regionally accredited’ and ‘nationally accredited’ related to institutional accreditation will no longer be used or recognized by the Department.”
