Program Description:

The Associate of Arts in Religious Studies (AARS) degree is designed to lay a biblical and academic foundation in preparation for further study at St. Louis Christian College. The AARS consists of the first two years of the BSCM (online four-year bachelor’s degree) program but may be taken independently. Typically the AARS student has taken little or no previous college work and is interested in a program that offers an attractive balance between courses in General Education, Biblical Studies, and Practical Ministry preparation. Prospective students are encouraged to consult the online SLCC Catalog for detailed information regarding academic programs, institutional mission and profile, financial information, and other matters related to student success.

Objectives for Graduates:

  • Given instruction in general studies, the student will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, think critically, and appreciate the independent value of knowledge.
  • Given an overview of Biblical teaching, the student will be able to explain basic doctrines of the Christian faith.
  • Given instruction in principles of Biblical hermeneutics, the student will demonstrate the ability to interpret the Bible.
  • Given the Biblical mandate of the Church’s ministry of discipling, the student will demonstrate the ability to share the gospel message with others.
  • Given the necessity of deriving life-management principles from Biblical study, the student will be able to apply Scripture to life and ministry.

Suggested Course Sequence:

To see the course sequence, students should consult the College Catalog. Students must be advised by the Online Program Coordinator, Kent Sanders, before registering for any enrollment period. You may contact Professor Sanders by email at, or by phone at 314-837-6777 x 1516.

Semesters start in January and July. Students may initiate their online coursework at the beginning of any of six enrollment periods (modules) per year, but must take Foundations for Academic Excellence as their first course.
