Job title:  Pastor


The Pastor is responsible to the church for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, using skills in administrative leadership, for engaging in pastoral care ministries to meet the needs of persons in the church and in the community and to act as the chief administrator of the ministerial and vocational staff.


To proclaim the gospel with the goal of reaching persons for Christ and fostering academic, emotional, social and spiritual growth.

To love and affirm persons and families within the fellowship without bias or prejudice.

To provide counseling to members and nonmembers and to keep confidential such communication.

To serve as administrator of church programs and ministries by facilitating communication and recommending appropriate ministries/programs to the appropriate persons.

To work with committees, organizations and boards in the development and implementation of programs of ministry and mission. Chairpersons of committees, organizations and boards are to have the responsibility of their office with the counsel of the pastor as desired or needed. All committees, organizations and boards are ultimately responsible to the Church from which their authority is derived and their responsibilities are defined.

To give primary oversight and direct the church office, supervising other paid staff, overseeing that the church calendar is maintained, representing the church to visitors and other persons who might come into contact with the church , advising other church members of information they need to carry our their duties as church officers and serving in other reasonable activities relative to the church office.

To establish and announce church office hours and generally maintain those office hours for all church members and the related business of the church. In times of absence, the church secretary should be informed as to how to contact the pastor.

To visit the sick, elderly and the bereaved and to maintain contact with the membership as a whole.

To conduct premarital, vocational, family, bereavement, counseling sessions, etc. as needed. Advise other professional help when necessary.

Perform wedding ceremonies and conduct funeral services.

To be an encourager to persons, programs and ministries of the church family.

Personal Qualifications and Skills:

Be a confessing, saved believer.

Meet the Biblical qualifications set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9 and Peter 5:1-4.

Hold to authority, inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture.

Be a proactive, creative thinker and problem solver with a positive attitude and a sense of humor.

Be a servant leader who is a team builder and able to delegate, having excellent communication skills with the ability to inspire and motivate people, especially youth and young adults.

Have the energy and tenacity to be able to take initiative and follow through on plans.

Agree to live within the parameters of the Pastor-Church Covenant.

Be a licensed or ordained minister.

Have completed pastoral and theological training.

Agree to continue personal and education and training, in some form, so as to provide fresh insight and leadership.

Undergo a background check.

Reporting Relationship:

This position is under the direction of and in close relationship with the Board of Directors and the Diaconate.
